Technology is evolving at an incredible speed today, gaining attention from the public. In the year 2023, the compound annual growth rate of the commercial drone market was $10.98 B with an expected annual increase rate of 25.82% by 2030, an impressive rapid growth (Fortune Business Insights).

With drone technology advancements, more drones have been implemented in various ways, leading to a growth of the drone market economically and technologically. To support the exponential technological development of drones, there have been further factors that have been affecting the market expansion positively such as regulation changes and increased demand from the public.

Regulation Changes

In previous years, when drones were not so commonly used, the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) did not list clear regulations for drones. Today, more regulations have been made for UAV safety because there have been more than 1,782,479 drones just within the United States every since 2014 (FAA).

The public has more access to UAVs ranging from recreational to commercial usages for monetary profits after clearer regulations on UAVs have been set up.

Public Safety

Drones are also utilized for public safety. With a wider vision and a bird’s POV, more areas are covered with one drone compared to surveillance cameras fixed on walls. Using these benefits, security industries are beginning to implement drones into their security system. The New York City Police Department utilizes drones for some uses such as protests and building safety surveillance (Govtech). The drone’s fast speed and unlimited travel zones allow a more efficient security system for the public.

Agricultural Applications

With a wider range of vision in the sky, the agricultural industry began to use drones. Agricultural people utilize agricultural drones such as DJI AGRAS T50: a spraying drone that has the ability to spray and spread pesticides, seeds, etc.

People also noticed that drones have the potential to save significant amounts of money compared to current methods. Drones’ quick surveillance ability decreases the amount of pesticides by spraying the areas that are needed instead of wasting them in all areas around the field, increasing efficiency.

DJI reports that over 300,000 agricultural drones are utilized today. With greater technological advancements, more growth is expected for greater agricultural yields (DJI).

Recreation

The drone market has not only increased by commercial uses but also by civilians. The popularity of drone photography caused an increase in the versatility of  types of drones that were used including cinematic and FPV drones. People also began using drones by simply flying them around just like RC cars. With these types of recreational activities gaining popularity, new sports were created known as drone racing. In addition to drone racing, artistic shows utilizing additional features of drones including LED lights are also popular today. The 2020 Tokyo Olympics utilized drones to display the Olympic sign with 1.824 illuminating drones in the night sky.

Conclusion

The expansion of the drone market has been exponential with various implementations on different uses. Drones are no longer simply used for warfare; they are to be expanded to the general public in commercial and entertainment simultaneously. OMNI’s vision to ensure safety in underserved communities expands the security industry that is to be developed even more in the near future.
